Mariner is making common-sense education affordable to Florence families.

Our mission is to offer the education that best honors God. That means mastering the fundamentals of reading, writing, math and rhetoric, accumulating real life skills, and becoming Godly people, accountable to both their community and themselves.

A Typical Day at Mariner...

Knowledge of the Fundmentals

At Mariner, we believe in mastering the fundamentals. This means knowing multiplication tables, solving complex word problems, diagramming sentences, reading plenty of literature and history, memorizing scripture, writing speeches, and more. This builds a solid foundation on which the student can build their life of Christian service, whether as a businessman, a homemaker, a welder or an engineer.

.

Real Life Skills

In today’s world, it’s not typical for high school graduates to know how to change a tire, build a birdhouse, sign a check, or mail something at the post office – but it is at Mariner! We make sure students can navigate the world without needing a computer to tell them what to do. Moreover, we work hard to provide real pathways to real careers that match their strengths and interests. This means the student interested in astronomy might take Calculus II, while the student interested in welding will skip Statistics to start an internship with our local business partners.

.

Godly Character

We hold students accountable for Christian behavior, as most generally outlined by Paul in 1 Corinthians 13:4 (“Love is patient, love is kind…”). We also employ Proverbs 13:24 in remembering to discipline them according to these expectations. Repenting students occasionally find it helpful to move the pile of cinder blocks across the soccer field.

Students are expected to keep up with their responsibilities. We expect a real effort for real learning. To that end, we make a great effort to connect what they are learning to the ways in which they aim to serve God in life.
